Yes, as S. Levin mentioned below, Golans comment has had horrible repercussions. Living here in America, I'm not jewish, but staunchly defending Israel. This comment (coming from from a Jew in Israel!), is being shoved back in supporters faces. The sentiment "you are your own worst enemy" certianly applies here!

Unfortunately, Golan has fed the fires of at least one American anti-Zionist organization who used that statement to launch an anti-Israel petition on the internet.

I have two observations regarding the article above and the article of yesterday.

1. Golan, no matter how courageous and (probably well meaning) seems not to be able to control his mouth. He apparently never heard the axion encouraging us to make sure that our minds are in gear before we put our mouths in gear. Although I cannot recall exactly, at this point (senioritis) the incidents, there were moments in the supreme court demonstrations, that he also said things that were either not necessary or were unnecessarily inflammatory, in addition to the two incidents that you cited yesterday. To my mind, this lack of control certainly disqualifies him for high office, and might have been what interfered with his military career.

2. As regards Schlessinger's comments about the citizens of Gaza, I would like to remind everyone that in spite of significant inducements, no "innocent citizen" gave Israel information about the location of a hostage This is not proof positive, but inferences may certainly be drawn from it.

It is important for all Jews, including those of us in America, to be aware of the emerging political divisions in Israel, and to know that there are political entities that will provide alternatives to the current reactionary government in Israel. I look forward to hearing more about Golan and how he develops as a candidate and of Natali Bennett as well. They may both be flawed, but they certainly would be an improvement over the existing government.
