Apropos of the rifle in the L&D room, a lot of US soldiers put through the suck of Iraq and Afghanistan (Vietnam too), came home shattered, and more than a few sleep witheir rifle nearby. I know Israel has different gun laws. To address the trauma, Hadassah is building the Gandel Rehab Center on Mt. Scopus, and I visited it in February. On 10.7,23, the garage was turned into an intake area, where emergency surgery was done, and the rest of the building is dedicated to rehab.

Still, the trauma this is placing on Am Yisrael will take generations to work its way through the collective psyche of the country. !חזק חזק ונתחזק

Is Israeli sovereignty really dented any more than the sovereignty of the rest of the nation's of this world? The only passport that helped Edan Alexander was an American one, but that only helped when it was accompanied by what we all presume were superpower pressure and certain concessions. Other American hostages were not so lucky and four foreign hostages remain. Even the recently freed Russian-Israeli captive was only released after hundreds of days in captivity. By this headline's perverse logic, American and Russian (not to mention Thai, French, and British) sovereignty have also been severely dented. If the leader of Russia had to "express words of gratitude to the political wing of Hamas for cooperating with us and carrying out this humanitarian act" after his citizen had been held for almost 500 days then no one except for Hamas can crow.
