IDF did not get the Syrian part of the Golan Heights, it took the (fortified) Syrian Hermon Peak (to avoid having Syrians willingly or mistakenly shell Northern Israel (and the the Golan Heights))
Friends of mine who live in Jerusalem recently were in the US visiting family; also said they just needed to get away.
