And for the first time since the war began, more and more newspaper articles and columns are beginning to argue that the war is not going nearly as well as the army would have us believe.
Maya Shem's haunted expression has stayed with me, as I hope that she wasn't raped or molested during her captivity and that she might eventually regain some hope for the future, now that she is safe with her family. Of course I wish the same for the many others.
As to what faces Israel now; a dilemma the likes of which few of our spineless politicians-currently displaying their well heeled double standards in Dubai-will ever have to face.
I wouldn't trust our new Foreign Sec.-'Call me Dave' Cameron -nor many of the other poseurs gathered in Dubai to maintain unstinting support for Israel's struggle.
I daresay his criticism of Netanyahu is echoed loudly by most Israelis. May I direct you to his most recent and highly reflective column in the TLS, ‘Athens or Sparta.’
When have you last seen his party elected to the knesset or in a position of power?Clearly they were represented in the unity government but we haven't heard from since. Of course, there are many people who would never again vote for Bibi but not because they agree with the sleeze bag chauvinist Shavit!
I am of the opinion that Israel needs to focus on the problem and level Gaza and bulldoze the remains into the sea as a new landfill. I just made a list of 3000+ years of antisemitism throughout the world including the USA. I am sure that I have missed a lot of incidents. I for one am sick of it. Be the people that God chose.
The reason we do not in wartime engage in the counsel of despair is not because there is no reason to despair, rather, because despair weakens us and strengthens our enemies who without doubt read this column. The author says these unhappy feelings are a growing trend. I hadn't noticed, to the contrary. In any event, does the author seek to further this trend? Need everything that can be said be said according to his journalistic ethics, as if what he writes are the observations of a passer by? This is an egregious abuse of a country that allows an uncensored press in wartime. I thought that was an enlightened policy until I read this drivel.
Oy.

Thank you for your important work!
Our Parsha HaShavuah teacher asked his students what were their thoughts vis a vis( paraphrasing) the hostage situation. My answer
“Am I a mother of one of the hostages”
Ari Shavit does not represent the majority of Israelis. Why do you think he is so important?
Really?
I daresay his criticism of Netanyahu is echoed loudly by most Israelis. May I direct you to his most recent and highly reflective column in the TLS, ‘Athens or Sparta.’
Why do you think he’s unimportant?
