Social contract argument is hard to follow. Is the contract absolute? If it required certain death of a hundred soldiers to free the hostages would the social compact require it? How about 100 civilians?

I hate to say this, but this isn't true. I friend of mine who volunteered in Israel in '73 heard it with her own ears from haredim who were 'defending the State' by sitting in a yeshiva in Tzefat.
