Re the USA community - isn’t this a re-run of the post-emancipation experience of the European Jews?

Danny, There is no question that Biden is in trouble with his base of Moslem supporters. Polls show that he has gone from around 70% to 17% support among Moslem Americans. This does not bode well for winning swing states like Michigan and Minnesota, with their high concentrations of Arab-American residents. However, Biden would be in even more trouble if he backs down. He cannot afford to be outflanked by the GOP candidate. Republicans will call him weak on foreign policy, weak on terrorism, weak on the border. He’ll lose independents and swing voters if he is publicly pressuring Israel to scale back operations. Biden has no choice but to remain vocally committed. He has also done the math. If he faces Trump, progressive liberals won’t have any choice but to get behind him. There is no alternative. What Moslem voters will do is the million dollar question. I expect that very soon, journalists will start asking Tlaib and Omar, “In light of your criticism of Biden’s foreign policy, do you still intend to endorse him for reelection?” “How can you tell your constituents to vote for “Genocide” Joe Biden in November?” This will cause a PR crisis— bc behind this is the bigger question: Do you put America first (Biden) or is loyalty to the Moslem Ummah greater (so write in Cornel West).

Interesting take. I have actually been wondering as to why Biden came out so pro Israel with everything he has to lose in Michigan.

I listened with great interest to this discussion of the alternatives regarding the hostages. I do not trust the leadership of Hamas one bit, and it would not surprise me, given the confusion over what hostages they have and can return to Israel , that they do not have (any) many living hostages. They know that they will , in the end, be ca;;ed to account for the hostages, and may actually be executed for their crimes, so "in for a penny, in for a pound".

I say this with great regret of course, but sadly it would not surprise me.

The topic of American Jewry that you discuss here reminds me of Eliot Abrams book from 1999 “Faith or Fear.” I believe his premise was the same even 24 years ago.

Is Sinwar, the master manipulator and media supremo intent on forcing Israel to undergo an internal rupture,as it agonises over a 'Sophie's Choice': rescue of all the hostages from their prison,or compkete eradication of Hamas?

From the west, we saw the huge civil protests which erupted in response to Netanyahu's plans to reform the judiciary and we now know, thanks to Substack articles from Israel, that Sinwar speaks Hebrew, studies Israel in depth and claims to understand the Israeli psyche.

The travails of this tiny country, the only democracy in the Middle East, should ensure that the west's slippery leaders maintain their support through thick and thin.
