That the memory of Moshe Ben-Dror and his generation will be for a blessing and a command is without question. I can far better relate to his accomplishments by being most of the war through Shalev’s “The Blue Mountain,” which was part of a recommended list on a previous podcast on this site. These pioneers of the five Aliyot and beyond built modern Israel from nothing and fought and died to ensure its independence. Israeli Jews and the Jewish Diaspora can never accomplish what these men and women did. The command we must follow is to do our very best to emulate them, no matter how far of the mark we may fall short . On a personal note, seeing Dr. Gordis standing with Moshe Ben-Dror reminds me of my cousins (also of Blessed Memory) Moshe and his brother Nechemia, who came to Israel in 1931. They fought in the Jewish Brigade of the British Army and then in the Haganah during the War of Independence. During a visit with them in 2000, they told me that in the early 1950s, Israelis were rationed to two eggs per week. I looked at them and marveled: two old Jewish men who helped build a country. Nothing I have done or will ever do can possibly measure up. I am humbled, but I am so grateful.

Sweet nostalgic emotional historical perspective, which also stirs my own connections to the vatikim. Thank you for the illuminations! Moshe's memory is already a blessing for us all.
