On 2 of my trips to Israel, I had the opportunity to volunteer for Leket. One was picking fruit on a farm (that would have gone unharvested by the farmer); the other was packing collected food. They were both wonderful experiences.
In December of 2023, I went to Israel and volunteered for two weeks harvesting food for an offshoot program from Leket, named Israel Food Rescue. We stayed in a hotel in Jerusalem and each morning were bussed down to near Ashdod where we worked harvesting. It is still harvesting food, although from what I know, it is now a separate organization of its own. It was the most wonderful and fulfilling experience. I heartily recommend it to anyone with a few weeks to spare. The people who I worked with are a very special group of individuals, and the farmers we worked with were extremely thankful. I plan to return this December (besides the wedding in Jerusalem that I will be going to) we will be volunteering for that program or something else. Check it out on line, Israel Food Rescue.
Thank you for this story. I shared it with my friend who founded a not for profit in NYC (see link below). I liked the need to have the person to person giving for the Debit cards. I continue to support and pray for Israel and its people.

Wonderful deep dive into Leket’s broad and positive reach in Israel.

How can I donate to Leket’s work in Israel? Is “American Friends of Leket Israel” supporting Leket’s work in Israel?
