Interesting breakdown of universities vs colleges. But while enumerating the universities of Israel, how could they not mention The Technion? Perhaps the most rigorous and elite of them all. I would have been interested in knowing the Ashkenazi/Mizrahi breakdown of its student body.
So middle class is nice but the university numbers show that there is a ceiling. The Ashkenazim still hold the legal, medical and financial levers of power. Hence the desire to reshape the judge selection system. I understand the motivation but the method stinks.
Suddenly a new understanding appeaed to me. A new word, communitarianism, was introduced to me. I had never heard it before but I have lived that way without knowing it. I have all the qualifications rewqired to be liberal, but for me that has been a sideline. I don't quite fit beccause of my abbsolute allegiance to this "new" term, I was cmpletely unaware how one cou;ld merge the two concepts. It's been a revelation. thank you for opening a new chapter in my concept of Zionism. R Goldfarb

Excellent episode.

another excellent conversation - hearing more nuance in the debate (away from the rigidity of ideology) - keeps hope alive

11 to 1 lecturers are mizrachi in universities despite mizrachi is 50% larger shows the Ashkenazi elite still exists and has power !
Maybe the progress to middle class for mizrachi is after overcoming Ashkenazi elite blocking them and not the support
I like the fact that middle class Ashkenazi kids may be less tribal which is good news
Note begin and BIbi politically opened doors for meritocracy to enter the economy that the old ben gurion Peotectia-also Palestinian cheap labour
Post 67 helps both Ashkenazi and mizrachi build small business !
Note most of university so called experts are Ashkenazi elites as well
Be careful of war propaganda on either left or right it’s a very complex topic and needs dialogue and compromise from the moderate middle
We need to move the zealots on both sides to the sidelines
A start is tshuva on Gaza 2005 mistreatment as well as stop the demonstrations and politicising the idf amd just start talking with respect !
"40% of intermarriage"--40% of what? of all marriages?
