This is important to read (as part one of the interview). One of the many mistakes of Truth and Reconciliation Commissions is the misunderstanding of trauma and forgiveness. Seen here in Dekel’s interview is the deep scars of trauma. That needs to be equally respected and acknowledged - not just by the Jewish or Israeli community.
So so so appreciative of Dekel’s unbelievable courage and precious time to share her family’s ongoing trauma. Hers is an important perspective to hear.
Besides her obvious courage and powerful motherhood, the upheaval of her personal life, community life and humanity (i.e. there are no innocent Gazan civilians), must be accompanied by a PTSD syndrome of sorts, and I don’t feel the government sponsored safety net is working.
