Very interesting, even though I consider the Islamists a modern phenomenon rather than a Medieval "mentality". Nonetheless, politics must be done knowing who our friends and enemies are and putting our own interests first!
Richard landes is so right!! But how do we stop this momentum of looking at Israel as the bad guys and feeling the need to be liked by the very people who hate Jews? They have blinders on are in a bubble of not being able to see the real world.
I fear for our future as Jews. As democracy. Letting the younger generation take over.
Feeling the need to be liked in the face of nearly 2,000 years of implacable antisemitism is, forgive me, a shtetl mentality. I need the love of my wife, children, and grandchildren (and some close friends). I don’t need love from the antisemites. I need only their fear that if they strike me, I will strike back. The key to Jewish survival is Jewish pride and toughness. As for curing antisemitism, I think I would have better luck spitting into a force 5 hurricane.
