And Haviv Rettig Gur, one of this period's most insightful commentators, with a take on Israel and its history that will leave you thinking about Israel entirely differently than you have until now.
Winston Salem, North Carolina, big thoughts in a small lecture hall in the "Tar Heel State." However, I would have felt a little better, more at ease with the concepts, if Professor Rettig Gur had clarified his terminology with regard to defining the term 'liberal.' He means classical liberalism, not modern day progressive 'liberalism.' I'll also gladly assent to Gur's emphasis on the key substantive phraseology, that is, the embrace of a posture by all concerned of one group's, the Jews, not having to ask permission to live, coupled, with the intellectual epiphany of Zionism as rescue. Very much looking forward to part two. Thanks for posting.
The pain of this father is simply gut-wrenching. It is almost too painful to watch and yet we owe it to him and all of the families of those lost that day and held captive to do exactly that. Boy, Daniel, I've been pretty depressed about everything but your vision of where you think things will be in 8 months just helped me reach a new low. And this isn't even taking into account what's happening here in the US. It's not truly a surprise - just depressing. Thank you, as always, for everything that you bring to us. We are always enriched by your posts. Shabbat Shalom v' Chag Sameach.
Many years ago we attempted to connect in Israel and failed. I have been a subscriber now for a long period and find your posts exquisite. Your posting of Haviv Gur’s talk is devastating. I send to you a virtual hug along with my deepest thanks and appreciation for what you have been doing as you write about your beloved Israel.
Hi! I'm very eager to watch the lecture, but I'd swear it's nowhere to be found on Shalem's site. Am I overlooking something obvious, or might that not be the right link?
The Eshel video is a gut punch. I don’t think I've ever seen or heard said anything quite like it.
The Gur lecture is superb. I see someone has shared a link to the second. I hope I'll be able to find the third.
An incredibly enlightening and insightful presentation by Rettig Gur. Todah Rabah for posting.

I'm already thinking about Israel different than I have until now...well...that's not entirely true.
